Pulse

Do you know what is meant by Pulse?
Pulse is the rate at which our heart beats.

Have you ever wonder what cause it to keep on beating?
Well human heart keep on beating even when we are in rest. Generally heart is composed dense tissue of fiber and muscle. This fibrous tissue will undergo configuration and form specialized structure and play role in electricity transmission.
4 main specialized structure:
  • SA node
  • AV node
  • Bundle of His
  • Purkinje Fiber

Sinoatrial node are specialized fibrous tissue placed at the right atrium near the opening of the superior vena cava. SA node also known as pacemaker as it functions to generate electrical impulse and initiates heart beat.
Atrioventricular node is situated in between atria and ventricle. It functions to receive impulse from SA node and results in atrial contraction.
Then the electrical impulse will relay on Bundle of His which further divides into left and right surrounding the left ventricle and right ventricle.
Then the Bundle of His will further divide forming Purkinje Fiber. The impulse that reaches the Purkinje Fiber will cause the ventricles to contract.
